Photo Competition - Rules

The voting section for the photo competition is now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry to the competition and who voted in the users favourite photo poll. The winners of all the prizes are displayed here.

The following are the terms and condition of entering the competition.

  1. The Promoter and organiser of the competition is The Aquaculture Innovation Network (EC funded project IPS-2001-42123 - CSN-INTRAN
  2. The competition is open to amateur photographers resident any European country. Consortium members of the CSN-INTRAN project and their families are not eligible to enter.
  3. Photographers can enter up to two images in one or each of the following 6 categories: "Aquaculture Innovation", "Aquaculture and nature", "Aquaculture people", "Aquaculture produce". The judges reserve the right to re-categorise any entry.
  4. A minimum of one image and a maximum of 8 images per person may be entered into the Competition.
  5. The copyright of the entire image before and after manipulation must be held by the entrant or the entrant must have the written authority of the copyright owner to submit the photograph for the competition.
  6. Entries can be digital images or prints (colour or black and white, not negatives or slides). Entrants must be able to provide the original negative or digital file if required.
    • Digital images can be submitted via the competition website www.aquainnovation.net or posted on a CD. If sent on CD, a separate text file should be included listing the photograph title, the category for which it is entered, the photographer's name and contact details. They should be submitted at the highest resolution possible.
    • Prints should be a minimum 6 x 4" (15 x 10 cm), maximum 10 x 8" (24 x 18 cm) and unmounted/unframed. Please write your name, address, daytime telephone number, title of the image and category on the back of each photograph
  7. Each photograph entered for the competition should be submitted with a separate entry form. Please keep AquaInnovation informed of any changes to your contact details.
  8. Postal entries from entrants aged under 18 must include the signature of a parent or guardian on the entry form to confirm the competition rules have been adhered to. Online entries from entrants aged under 18 must include the name of a parent or guardian who can confirm the same.
  9. The Promoter does not accept any liability for lost, delayed or incomplete entries. Illegible entries will be disqualified.
  10. A winner and runner-up will be selected in each category, and an additional prize will be awarded for "popular choice" based on selection by web-site users and that a prize will also be awarded to the best photo taken by a young person under the age of 18. Prizes will be awarded according to the published prize list. Entrants can win more than one prize for different images. Aquainnovation, in consultation with prize donors, reserves the right to withdraw any or all prizes for specific categories if there are less than 5 eligible entries within that category.
  11. All images should have been taken on, or after, 1st January 2004. A panel of 3 independent judges will be appointed by the Aquainnovation consortium to choose the main category winners and allocate prizes. The names of the judges is given on the Aquainnovation web site (see below) but may be varied by the CSN-INTRAN consortium if circumstances require. The popular choice award, will be determined by voting on the web site, based on a shortlist, including the category winners, draw up by the judges. The judges' decision is final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into.
  12. Entrants agree that the CSN-INTRAN project may reproduce and/or license the reproduction of any entries received without any payment to the photographer or model for any educational or promotional use, in any media including posters, books, websites, leaflets, newsletters and newspapers and will credit the photographer.
  13. All images are sent at the entrant's risk and Aquainnovation regrets that it cannot accept any liability for any loss of, or damage occurring to any images entered in the competition (how so ever caused) nor for any other loss or damage resulting therefrom.
  14. No entries will be returned.
  15. CLOSING DATE for all entries is 31 March 2006. Winners will be notified in April 2006 and the results of the competition will be available online at www.aquainnovation.net with the popular choice award being made in May 2006.
  16. Entering the Competition implies acceptance of these rules.

 

Judges

The selection panel is expected to consist of Francois Rene (IFREMER, France, representing Aquainnovation Network), Fred Phillips (Photographer for the Media Services Department of the University of Stirling, UK) and Vidar Vassvik (Author of "Fish Farming - A pictorial adventure in the blue pasture", Norwegian now living in Spain).
