A Special Forum during Aquaculture Europe 2005 - August 6 2005, Trondheim, Norway
Introduction
Innovation Forum, will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, August 6, as session 9 of the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) AE2005 conference (Trondheim, August 5-8). The forum will last approximately two hours. The Aquaculture Europe 2005 event, including the Innovation Forum, will take place at the Natural Science Building (Realfagbygget) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) - Gløshaugen campus, Trondheim, Norway. The forum will be chaired by Svein Hallbjørn Steien of Innovation Norway and Kjell Maroni (FHL Norway). The forum is designed to inform and update AE2005 delegates of three pan-European networks, whose general objectives are to stimulate and facilitate innovation in aquaculture.
The three networks involved are:
- CSN Intrans (Creating supporting network for international transfer of innovative technologies in European aquaculture)
- "FISH" (Facilitating Innovation for Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Resources).
- Innovation Relay Centre Fish Technology Working Group

Programme
The preliminary programme is as follows:
- CSN Intrans (Creating supporting network for international transfer of innovative technologies in European aquaculture) www.aquainnovation.net - presented by John Bostock (University of Stirling, UK)
- "FISH" (Facilitating Innovation for Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Resources) www.fish.sintef.no/ - presented by John Arne Bjørgen (Sintef. Norway)
- Innovation Relay Centre Fish Technology Working Group http://irc.indman.sintef.no - presented by Argyro Karahaliou (IRC, Greece) (to be confirmed)
Presentations of 20 minutes will, for each network, address the following:
- Objectives
- Target audience
- Mode of operation
- Current status
- Impact and future development
The chairs will then animate a panel discussion, which will focus on highlighting the differences between the networks, and how specific needs of the target audience can be met. This will be part of a wider discussion on the role of innovation in aquaculture development, and specifically, how the research community is implicated in this development.
